  • The Institution of the Western Cape (UWC) is a public university in Bellville, a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The institution was established in 1960 by the South African government as a university for Colored people alone.
    The Institution of the Western Cape is a public university in the Bellville district of Cape Town, South Africa. Western Cape University has a strong history of defying injustice, inequality, and disadvantage via creative means.
  • It has been at the vanguard of South Africa’s historic transformation, playing a unique academic role in assisting in the establishment of a just and dynamic country. UWC’s major concerns concerning higher education access, equity, and quality originate from extensive hands-on experience supporting the historically underprivileged in fully participating in society.

Applications for admission in 2023 open on May 1 and finish on August 31, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must be 18 years old and have a 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale at their local school (GPAs under 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will require additional documents outlined in a section below)
  • You must be a sophomore, junior, or senior when the program begins. Applicants to UCT must have completed at least three semesters of study (first-semester sophomores can apply).
  • Sophomore students may be unable to enroll in some local university courses. Please contact your IES Abroad Representative for further information.

The University of the Western Cape’s Undergraduate and Postgraduate Application Procedures (UWC)

  • The UWC application procedure is divided into six (6) parts, including:

STEP 1; For further information, go to www.uwc.ac.za/Students/Admin/Pages/Apply-Online.aspx. then choose New Application.

STEP 2; While filling out your application, make sure that the Application Type is set to Postgraduate.

STEP 3; Complete the Personal Information area.

STEP 4; When completing your Application Type, be sure you include the following information:

  • Study Type:
  • Year of Admission:
  • Semester:
  • Faculty:
  • Program:
  • Department:

STEP 5:  Complete the Applicant Contact Details section.

STEP 6; Complete the section on Next of Kin Details.

STEP 7; Make sure to list all your academic qualifications to date.

STEP 8; Complete the Financial Information section.

STEP 9; Include details about any bursaries you’ve applied for or received.

STEP 10; Fill in the blanks in the areas of Alumni, Staff, and Marketing. If any of the information does not apply to you, please discard it. Continue to submit your application.

STEP 11: Admission Of Application

  • After completing the online application form, you will get an email from the University acknowledging receipt of your application.
  • The acknowledgment letter will include your APPLICANT NUMBER.
  • Any correspondence with the institution must include this application number.
  • In addition, you will get a brochure outlining the SUPPORTING papers that must be sent to the University by the application dates in order for your application to be deemed complete.

STEP 12 – Upload Supporting Documentation

  • Go to the website to obtain supporting papers.
  • Fill out the forms and send the required papers.
  • Already Registered Students are not required to provide any supporting documentation.
    Students that have already matriculated:
  • Upload your matrix certificate/diploma from a foreign school.
  • Students enrolled in other tertiary institutions must present a certified copy of their academic record as well as a certificate of good character.
