About University of Stellenbosch Residence
On the Stellenbosch Campus, around 6 500 students can be accommodated in approximately 31 university houses and other university housing. A total of 1 000 students are housed in the five houses on the Tygerberg Campus, where the Faculty of Health Sciences is located. The majority of Maties studying on these two campuses (which have a total of about 30 000 students) live in Stellenbosch and its vicinity.
A Residential Head is in charge of students who are assigned to one of these residences. A house committee, in turn, assists the Residential Head. Mentors are also present at each residence. Mentors are senior students who are assigned to new students in residence halls and Private Student Organizations (students who live independently) to help them acclimate to university life. Every new student should be assigned a mentor. During the orientation phase, the mentor provides general assistance with university life questions as well as psychosocial support. New students have the opportunity to participate in the University’s Wellness programme, which strives to improve students’ wellness throughout the year, thanks to their mentor.
University of Stellenbosch Residence facilities
- Each room has a network port where you can connect your personal computer to the University’s network, electronic information resources, the Internet, and web-based e-learning tools.
- Has a Laundry facilities
- Has a common “living room” area for socializing, watching TV or just “hanging out”
- All women’s residences, and some of the men’s, also have a communal and/or private lounge area where visitors can be received and entertained.
- And also most of the residences boast lovely courtyards and/or gardens for play and relaxation.
